The C220 Coins Control Validator is used in many of our arcade machines. They provide a good robust and reliable way to check coins and tokens.
Validators can all suffer from technical issues and the most common with the C220 is a coin jam.
NOTE: This validator can come in a few slightly different models, including a C230 or possibly a blue coloured Sentinel. Effectively these are all the same validator.
Removing the the C220 from its fixing plate
The C220 has a large, usually clear plastic, release slide on the top of the validator. It is sprung loaded and is designed to slide backwards, away from the coin door.
Once the release slide is released the validator should lift upwards and come free of the fixing plate.
Before proceeding take a look at the fixing plate on the coin door. You should notice two brass looking circular locating lugs. These are design to slot into the the front of the C220 validator.
Look at the front of the C220 validator and you should notice two holes that will line up with the brass lugs in the fixing bracket for re-fitment of the C220.
C220 Connecting Cable
In many cases there will be a multi-way wired connector that is plugged into the side of the C220 validator.
Try not to dislodge this cable when removing the C220. If you can, take a photograph of the how the connector is connected to the C220 (refitting this connector is covered later).
IMPORTANT: In some cases there might be a secondary electronic board affixed to the side of the C220 validator, this will be a 'Credit Board'. If so, please refer to the instructions at the end of this service advice article.
Clearing a Coin Jam
When the C220 has been removed you should be able to open the eject flap and possibly shake free coins that have become lodged in the top of the C220 at the point where coins are inserted.
It is possible that the coin build up has occurred at either, or both, of the coin reject and the coin hopper output slots (the one that drops coins/tokens into the coin box).
If this appears to be the problem, then refit the C220 to its fixing panel and try to run coins/tokens through it to see of the the problem has been solved.
Another common issue is caused by sticky coins or tokens. These can often be the cause of the 'Jam'.
In some cases the only solution is to replace the C220 validator.
Refitting the C220 Validator
Refitting is the C220 is simple. Line up the the two holes on the front of the C220 with the two brass locating lugs and carefully push the C220 downwards until is it stops.
The release slide should 'click' into place when the C220 is in the correct location.
