C120 Coin Controls Validator

C120 Coin Controls

The Coin Controls C120 validator is a compact deign and can be susceptible to coin jams.

It is most commonly fitted on arcade game tables such as:

  • Space Invaders
  • Centipede
  • Air Hockey Tables

The C120, or similar validator the Money Controls SR3, can have a number of different looking fixing methods. There are fixing plates and fixing cradles.

This style of validator uses a 10way ribbon cable to connect it to an external Credit Board. There are several credit boards types that could be inside the machine you are looking at.

Should this 10way cable become dislodge or disconnected while you are servicing the validator please refer to the guidance at the end of this article.

Pacman and MS Pacman Cabinets

Most of our Pacman and Ms Pacman cabinets have a 'Midway' coin door, which uses a validator cradle. Please refer to our Pacman/MsPacman page for specific guidance about these machines.

Removing the C120/SR3

The most common fixing plate is a plastic panel which the validator clips into.

Looking at the back of the validator on the left hand side there is longish plastic clip that protrudes from the back of the fixing plate. This clip needs to be levered further to the left to release the validator.

Sometimes there is a cable tie through an eyelet on the end of the plastic fixing clip which will help to release the clip.

With the clip released the validator should pull free.

Clearing a Coin Jam

When the C120/SR3 has been removed you should be able to open the eject flap and possibly shake free coins that have become lodged in the top of the validator at the point where coins are inserted.

It is possible that the coin build up has occurred at either, or both, of the coin reject and the coin hopper output slots (the one that drops coins/tokens into the coin box).

If that appeared to be the problem, then refit the validator to its fixing panel and try to run coins/tokens through it to see of the the problem has been solved.

Another common issue is caused by sticky coins or tokens. These can often be the cause of the 'Jam'.

In some cases the only solution is to replace the validator.

Refitting a C120/SR3 validator

Like the Mars ME126 validator the C120/SR3 units normally just need aligning at the front and swinging into the plastic fixing plate. You should notice that the release lever has returned to it's original location.

Refitting the 10way connector

The 10way connector is actually 2 two rows of five pins. Looking at the connector you will see there is an alignment lug on the top of it. This lug will only allow the connector to fit one way into the C120/SR3 validator. Simply ensure that it is fully seated in.
